Alekseeva L.I. Late Pleistocene Theriofauna of East Europe (large Mammals).-M, zNauka, 1989.-9.-(Trans. Geol. Inst. USSR Ac. Sci. Vol.455).

The book provides a treatement of the Mammoth fauna distributed in the European part of the USSR during the Upper Pleistocene. A biostratigra- phic review has been performed covering two faunistic complexes - Scurlat and Upper Paleolithic ones.  The studied area was characterized by essentially steppe Theriofauna (bisons, mammoths, wooly rhinoceroses*, The "mixed" fauna (including mammoth, horse, saiga, reindeer and the polar fox) was initially formed within a broad band of periglacial zone of the Valdai glaciation. Maximum distribution of this type of fauna was confined to the mid-Valdai epoch. Its extinction and regrouping of faunistic complex started at the level of 14-13 th.y.
